Harlem, NY
Harlem is North of central park in the well-known district of Manhattan. Known as the cultural capital of Black America, Harlem is a place where African American artists, writers, and musicians contributed to the time period known as the Harlem Renaissance. Renaissance means reborn or going back. African Americans went to Harlem because houses were cheap there. They felt that it was the first time that they could own a house and have a real life. They must have felt like a free bird streaching out his/her wings for the first time flying. African Americans were very happy in Harlem. They lived a normal live like you and I( go to the grocery store, play outside, and go to school). Harlem still resembles a lot of what it did in the roaring 20's, including the art of the African Americans that changed Harlem forever.
