Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong- (Born August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana - Died July 6,1971 in New York, New York)
As a child Louis Armstrong lived very poor. When he was just twelve, he was sent to a Colored Waifs Home to live. Luckily, there he learned how to play the cornet and he loved music from then on. After five years of practice, he was recognized by the most well known cornet player in Louisiana and at only 17 years old, he was good enough to replace the cornet legend, King Oliver. Armstrong played in the band Kid Ory and married the pianist Lil Harden in 1924 who soon convinced him to quit Kid Ory to seek more fame. Not long after quiting, he got the job that made him the first jazz soloist and of coarse, for Louis, this was not a job but a passion. By 1929 Armstrong was one of the most famous musicians in American history. Not only was he a good trumpet player but he was also a good singer, too. he played and sang songs like "Hobo, you can't ride this train" and "Wonderful World," played in the movie Madagascar. He also played in movies such as Pennies From Heaven and Hello, Dolly! sadly, when Armstrong was in his 60's, he got an illness that destoyed his trumpet playing, but continued with his singing career until his death on July 6,1971, when he was 70 years old. Louis Armstrong's music is still heard in movies and on the radio. With a talent like no other, people will always remember Satchmo, Louis Armstrong.
